In this interactive workshop, you will learn the basics of the teaching statement genre, reflect on your own teaching philosophy (no matter how much teaching experience you have) and practice evaluating the statements of successful job seekers. Are you a postdoc applying for a faculty job this year? OPA and CareerEd have a new program just for you, the Faculty Job Prep Summer Series.

This series brings together postdocs heading for the job market who will provide structured feedback, individual insight, and accountability as you draft your research statement, diversity statement, teaching statement, and cover letter.  By the end of the summer you will be well on your way to final application materials.

Mentoring Monday: Conflict Management

Conflict is an inevitable part of working with others. Understanding how to manage conflict productively is an important skill to develop as a mentor. In this session, you will identify and learn about your personal conflict management style and reflect on how it affects your professional relationships.

You will also practice managing conflict and explore how your actions during a conflict may impact your mentees. This session will help you develop the skills and confidence to effectively navigate and adapt to a variety of challenging situations you may encounter as a mentor.

Am I Ready for the Faculty Job Market?

Join staff from OPA and CareerEd for lunch and a look into the academic job market. We’ll discuss what different institutions look for and do some deep thinking about where you are now, where you would like to be in the future, and what steps to take to get there. This 90-minute session will help you consider your options and assess your readiness for the job market. Lunch provided.
