The status of postdocs at Stanford makes them eligible for loan deferment. Stanford participates in quarterly electronic uploads to the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC). These uploads are automatic and require no action on your part.
Submit a student loan deferment form if your status is reported incorrectly.
Instructions for Submitting a Loan Deferment Form:
-
Download a form directly from your loan agency's website.
-
Complete your section only and sign the form.
-
Submit the form to the OPA via a HelpSU ticket (the form can be attached to the ticket). Include the address and/or fax number of your loan agency. This is usually found on one of the later pages of the form itself.
-
OPA will complete and sign the institutional section and send it back to you. You can then submit it to your financial institution.
-
You will be provided a scanned copy of the completed form via email.
Please note: Postdocs at Stanford are appointed through the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs as students rather than hired as employees. Thus, postdocs are reported to the National Student Clearinghouse as students and are eligible for loan deferments.
The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program requires an attestation of employment. Because postdocs are not hired as employees at Stanford, we cannot verify employment for the PSLF program.
