Mentoring Lunches: Fostering Independence

In Series:
July 21, 2025 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm
On Campus

Helping trainees build the skills and confidence to work more independently is an important part of a research mentoring relationship. In addition to providing guidance and advice, helping mentees grow as independent researchers requires an accurate assessment of their current abilities and level of understanding.

In this session, we will discuss guiding mentees on the path to independence across different domains. Through small group activities, we will explore how to determine where your mentees currently are on this journey and how to best help them become a more self-sufficient and mature researcher.

Facilitators: Debra Van Egeren and Michelle Miranda Vélez, Postdoc Peer Mentoring Coaches.

Mentoring Lunches are open to postdocs from all disciplines. Lunch will be provided.
