The laboratory of Dr. Sheri Krams  is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow for a dynamic immunology research program. The lab investigates fundamental mechanisms of immune recognition and regulation in clinically relevant contexts, with a particular focus on transplantation immunology and viral immunity.

Our work dissects the cellular and molecular pathways that shape immune responses to alloantigens and EBV, with an expanding emphasis on how extracellular vesicles mediate intercellular communication and modulate immune function. A major focus of the lab is defining the diversity, regulation, and functional specialization of natural killer (NK) cells in response to allo, xeno and viral antigens.

This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in discovery-driven immunology while working closely with human samples and disease-relevant systems—enabling mechanistic insights with clear potential to inform future therapeutic strategies.

The Opportunity

This role is designed for a postdoc seeking increased scientific independence, leadership responsibility, and strong mentorship within a collaborative, translational research environment. The successful candidate will play a central intellectual role in shaping projects, mentoring trainees, and contributing to the lab’s scientific direction.

Dr. Krams is deeply committed to mentorship while prioritizing scientific independence. The lab environment supports autonomous project leadership, with strategic guidance in experimental design, publication planning, and grant development as needed—preparing scientists for successful next steps in academia, research leadership, or industry.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to research projects focused on immune regulation in transplantation and viral immunity.
  • Apply and expand expertise in advanced methodologies such as CyTOF, sequencing approaches (CITE-Seq, NGS, RNA-seq), and bioinformatics, with opportunities to learn and integrate new techniques as projects evolve.
  • Design, adapt, and optimize experimental protocols in response to emerging scientific questions.
  • Write and contribute substantively to research protocols, manuscripts, and grant applications.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, undergraduate students, medical students, clinical fellows, and visiting scientists.
  • Participate in and help foster collaborations with other research groups across Stanford and beyond.
  • Contribute to a collegial, inclusive, and intellectually rigorous lab environment.
