We are currently seeking a postdoctoral scholar with an interest in mitochondria and a desire to study the effects of anesthetics across the life-span. Our laboratory investigates the mechanisms of action of anesthetics and the mechanisms of their toxicity in the developing brain and heart. We focus specifically on the biological activity of various sedative-hypnotics within mitochondria. We utilize mouse models, in vivo rabbit preparations, and cell culture approaches to study how anesthetics induce unconsciousness and cause toxicity. Our wet bench experiments involve measuring oxygen consumption in actively respiring mitochondria, quantifying mitochondrial enzyme kinetic activities, and assessing cardiac function in the isolated-perfused mouse heart.

Postdoctoral scholars will have the opportunity to join an experienced mentor, lead independent projects, teach junior team members, and contribute to multidisciplinary research. We provide a supportive environment aimed at developing the scholar's expertise and professional career.

Required Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) conferred by start date
  • Proficiency with breeding mice, caring for rodent colonies, and experience with working with live animals in a wet lab environment
  • Experience with cell culture, tissue collection, mitochondrial isolation, enzyme activity assays is desired
  • Demonstrated strong technical writing skills
  • Experience with grant writing is preferred but not required
