Postdoctoral Researchers – Brain and Ovarian Aging
The Kapahi Lab is recruiting two Postdoctoral Researchers to lead innovative projects investigating the biology of brain and ovarian aging and the connections between reproductive aging, systemic health, and longevity.
These projects will integrate large-scale human datasets, including the UK Biobank, with mechanistic studies in Drosophila to identify conserved pathways linking reproductive timing, ovarian function, brain aging, and age-related disease. A major goal is to move from discoveries in human genetics and population data to experimentally testable mechanisms using powerful genetic models.
Projects will combine bioinformatics, genomics, genetics, and systems biology, with opportunities to use approaches including GWAS, Mendelian randomization, transcriptomics and multi-omics analyses alongside functional genetic studies in Drosophila. Particular areas of interest include the molecular consequences of ovarian aging, reproductive transitions, neurodegeneration, nutrient-responsive pathways, and mechanisms that promote resilience during aging.
Our lab uses a highly cross-disciplinary approach spanning human genetics, computational biology, genomics, genetics, pharmacology, and biochemistry. By integrating human population-scale data with experimentally tractable model systems, we aim to uncover fundamental mechanisms of aging and identify pathways that can promote healthier aging in both women and men.
We are particularly interested in candidates with backgrounds in computational biology/human genetics or Drosophila genetics and aging biology, and we encourage researchers interested in bridging these areas to apply.
- PhD in Biology, Bioinformatics, Neuroscience, or a related field.
- Experience with model organisms and/or bioinformatic data analysis is an advantage, but not essential.
- Willingness to write grants and manuscripts is a prerequisite.
Interested candidates should apply online and upload a CV, cover letter, and contact information for 3 professional references.
