Postdoc in the modeling of laboratory workflows to program self-driving laboratories
The Stanford University Division of Computational Medicine is developing advanced technology in cheminformatics with the long-term goal of radically enhancing the way in which all researchers approach their data, share their scientific results with other investigators, and execute scientific experiments. Stanford is home to leaders in open science, and we are embarking on a large, collaborative project to aid scientists to specify laboratory procedures for remote execution by robot-controlled, programmable cloud laboratories.
We are seeking a post-doctoral research scientist with broad, interdisciplinary experience for a two-year, renewable term, who is passionate about revolutionizing the research enterprise. We are particularly interested in applicants with deep experience in laboratory-based investigation who wish to draw on their knowledge of chemistry or biotechnology to characterize and define laboratory workflows for execution in self-driving, programmable cloud labs and to educate other scientists about these automated techniques. The post-doctoral scientist will work with a dynamic, multidisciplinary team of software engineers, modelers, educators, and scientific investigators.
- An earned doctoral degree in cheminformatics, biomedical Informatics, the natural sciences, or a related discipline.
- First-hand experience with experimental laboratory workflows in biotechnology, analytical chemistry, or a related experimental discipline.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to move from informal, ambiguous descriptions to precise, formal specifications.
- Ability to work independently and to mentor junior researchers, students, or trainees.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a distributed, multi-institutional team.
- Experience teaching complex material to trainees at different skill levels.
- Excellent communication skills in oral and written English.
Desirable skills:
- Experience designing structured, machine-actionable knowledge representations in chemistry or biomedicine, including defining classes, properties, and relationships.
- Experience building AI systems with large language models (LLMs).
