Postdoctoral Position in Stem Cell Neuroscience and Spinal Cord Injury and Repair.

Dr. Irene L. Llorente, Assistant Professor in the Neurosurgery Department, is recruiting a full-time postdoctoral fellow for a CIRM-funded project. Dr. Irene L. Llorente's lab research interests are largely directed toward understanding the biology of white matter repair in central nervous system (CNS) disorders. The Llorente lab is particularly interested in leveraging the current technologies emerging in the stem cell field to develop more efficient and effective stem cell-based therapies for spinal cord injury, stroke, vascular dementia, and traumatic brain injury patients.

Building on a long history of transplanting hiPSC-derived cells to promote neural repair in pre-clinical models, this newly funded research program aims to develop an innovative glial cell-based therapy capable of repairing the injured spinal cord and the corticospinal tract (CST) through axonal growth, oligodendrocyte differentiation, and remyelination to maximize functional recovery after SCI.
