We partake in an interdisciplinary approach toward developing novel techniques for diagnosing, monitoring, and treating oculoplastic and orbital disease. A post-doc in the oculoplastics lab will work on translational studies such as cell culture projects to help understand the molecular underpinnings of Thyroid Eye Disease and the impact of current treatment options. Our studies also work towards developing new treatment options in TED and understanding the proteomic profile of orbital and ocular surface inflammatory diseases. The post doc will also work on animal studies to explore new treatments for ocular surface diseases, including a multidisciplinary project with our cornea and chemical engineering department to better understand corneal neurotization and improved techniques to treat neurotrophic keratopathy and techniques to deliver growth factors and/or stem cells to the ocular surface. Further, our post-doc will participate in clinical research and clinical trials. We have over a dozen randomized clinical trials in collaboration with our ENT and endocrinology services. Finally, we have projects evaluating opportunities to improve diagnosis and management of oculoplastic disease using artificial intelligence and opportunities to expand the reach of eye care providers in identifying and managing patients with referral-warranted oculoplastic disease.
