Alexandria Boehm at Stanford University is searching for a post doctoral researcher to oversee research related to the use of environmental DNA or RNA (eDNA or eRNA) for coastal biodiversity assessments. The post doc will be stationed at Stanford University in the department of civil and environmental engineering or the department of oceans and carry out laboratory measurements to better understand the persistence and sources of eDNA and eRNA in the environment, and how their concentrations relate to densities of organisms (both vertebrate and invertebrates). An ideal candidate will know how to use QPCR and / or droplet digital PCR and have experience with amplicon sequencing.
The postdoc will be expected to carry out experimental laboratory and field research, write and submit manuscripts in a timely fashion for peer-reviewed publication, train and mentor graduate students on molecular techniques, and assist with proposal writing. The successful candidate will be encouraged to submit the output of their work to scientific conferences and professional meetings.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, or related fields. The individual should possess the ability to conduct independent molecular biology measurements and carry out sound statistical analyses; Other essential qualifications include excellent oral and written English-language communication skills.
