Pilot Transitional Housing for Incoming Postdoctoral Scholars

The Pilot Transitional Housing Program provides a place for new postdocs to land while they familiarize themselves with the area, set up their bank account, settle into their research, and look for long-term housing. Provided at market rate for a minimum of 2 months and a maximum of 4 months, the housing is furnished, close to campus and does not require a credit check or security deposit. You also have the option of purchasing basic kitchen equipment and linens to take with you when you move.

Please note that the apartments that are being used for the Pilot Transitional Housing for Postdoctoral Scholars Program at the Oak Creek Apartments are not a part of the stock of apartments available for rent to qualifying Stanford postdocs, faculty, and staff. They are a set of apartments within the same complex that are entirely devoted to the transitional housing program. Additionally, the transitional housing program and the apartment rentals available to qualifying Stanford postdocs, faculty, and staff (with a priority given to postdocs) are administered by two completely different offices; Student Housing Operations and Stanford Conferences, a division of Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE) oversees the transitional housing program, while Faculty and Staff Housing oversees the general rental of apartments at Oak Creek for qualifying Stanford faculty and staff. A reservation and residency in the transitional housing program will not positively or negatively affect a request for an apartment rental at Oak Creek through Faculty and Staff Housing.

How do I make a reservation?
You will need your offer letter with your start date, as well as your check-in date and anticipated check-out date (minimum 2 months).
Log on to the reservation form.

  1. Enter name, email, requested check-in and check-out dates, housing type, and additional family occupants.
  2. Select optional kitchen equipment and linens. You are not required to purchase these. If you choose to do so, you will take them with you when you move out.
  3. Payment: You will be asked to agree to the payment policy stating that if you are provided housing, you will provide the first month’s payment and a completed residence agreement within 5 days of receiving the invoice. Your second payment will be due one week before the start of the next 30-day period.
  4. Upload a copy of your offer letter.

Requests are processed in the order they are received. If a reservation is not available based on the request submitted, you may be offered a reservation with minor adjustments in dates if doing so makes accommodating the request possible. Otherwise, your request will be maintained in case a unit becomes available. Either way, you will be notified.

If your request can be accommodated, you will receive a residence agreement and Stripe invoice. The completed agreement and payment on the invoice will be due back within 5 days to secure the space.  The invoice will be for the first month’s stay plus kitchen/linen packs if any are requested.  Once the completed agreement and payment are confirmed, you will receive instructions for check-in.  Payments for subsequent months will be due one-week prior to the start of that month, and invoices for these will be sent two-weeks prior.

What happens if my start date changes?
If you need to change your check-in date, contact Stanford Conferences as soon as possible to see if we can accommodate your change.

How early should I make a reservation?
We have limited stock for this pilot, so we recommend reserving your unit as soon as you are sure of your arrival date.

What if I need to cancel my reservation?
Please email Stanford Conferences if you need to cancel your reservation.

We will do our best to fill the space. You are responsible for the cost of any days we cannot fill, or $500.00, whichever is less.

What if I want to stay longer?
You may be able to stay longer, depending on availability. The maximum stay is 120 days (4 months).

How do I pay?

Payment may be made via credit card, bank transfer, or Stanford PTA (for those whose department or faculty sponsor are subsidizing the cost.)

What happens if I find a place to live before my agreement is up?

If you move out early, we will try to fill your space. You are responsible for the cost of any days we cannot fill, or $500.00, whichever is less.
