The Shafer Laboratory at Stanford invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar passionate about combating antiviral drug resistance. You'll collaborate on groundbreaking projects and contribute to the globally utilized Stanford HIV Drug Resistance Database (HIVDB).
Our plans:
1. Enhancing HIVDB as a resource that provides the scientific foundations for the biological, clinical, and epidemiological importance of mutations in the targets of HIV therapy
2. Analyzing HIVDB for ground-breaking publications
3. Creating the knowledge bases required to apply our genotypic resistance testing software to other viruses
4. Integrating AI tools like large language models to curate antiviral drug resistance papers and to manage inquiries
This fellowship is designed to hone your skills and foster new learning. You’ll have the autonomy to delve into related research areas that spark your interest.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
1. Deep understanding of virus evolution and antiviral therapy
2. Expertise in viral sequence data analysis and statistical tools
3. Proficiency in programming and eagerness to master new technologies
4. Solid grasp of probability and statistics
5. Strong communication skills for leading collaborations and interacting with the scientific community
Qualifications:
6. PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, virology, or a related field
7. Pursuit of a career in bioinformatics, evolutionary virology, or antiviral therapy
