This event is part of series:

May 18, 2021 - 12:00pm to 1:30pm
ONLINE ONLY
Speaker(s):
Dr. Harriett Jernigan, Lecturer, Program in Writing and Rhetoric, Stanford University

Tuesday, May 18, 12:00pm-1:30pm PT / 3:00pm-4:30pm ET, via Zoom

In their efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, universities and employers are increasingly requiring prospective postdocs, fellows and employees to include a diversity statement in their application materials. This workshop will show you how to approach the diversity statement as a story about the intersections at which you stand and how those intersections inform your scholarship and teaching. In collaboration with others, you will review the basic characteristics of successful diversity statements and then work on your own, whether a first draft or one you’ve already written.

Harriet Jernigan is a Lecturer in the Program in Writing and Rhetoric and a professional writing consultant with the Hume Center for Writing and Speaking.
