Mentoring 101: How to Get What You Need to Thrive in the Academy

Thursday, October 3, 9:00am-4:00pm, Tresidder

In this full day workshop, we challenge the conventional wisdom about mentoring within academia and present a new framework to help you re-imagine how mentoring works. All participants will map their current mentoring network, identify the pressing areas of need that are not being met, and create a plan to expand their existing mentoring network.

This workshop is open to graduate students, postdocs, and early-career faculty.

In this session, we’ll build on past workshops on Aligning Expectations, Listening Actively, and Enhancing Understanding of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to practice having effective conversations with mentees.

We’ll learn and apply a framework for conversations that focuses on fully understanding everyone’s perspective on a problem before collectively designing solutions.
