Interested in joining a team exploring how the brain and nervous system recovers from injury and develop new therapies to heal the brain? The George lab in the Department of Neurology and Neurological Sciences is looking for a postdoctoral fellow focused applying cutting edge neuroscience techniques to understand and improve brain recovery.

Our group harnesses neuroscience, stem cell and bioengineering techniques to develop new methods of neural recovery and tissue regeneration. The project is focused on using techniques developed in our lab to improve stroke recovery.  This position will work with a multi-disciplinary group to tackle the challenges of triggering the repair processes of the nervous system in stroke and neurodegenerative conditions. Opportunities for self-originated project design and execution exist.  Previous animal experience is preferred.
Responsibilities will be matched to the experience level and career goals of the successful candidate.

Required Qualifications: 
  • Post-graduate degree (MD or PhD) and training in the neuroscience or similar
  • Lab research experiences with the preferred candidate being comfortable with animal models of disease
  • Record of distinguished scholarly achievement

 
Physical Requirements:*
 

  • Frequently sit, reach above shoulders, perform desk-based computer tasks, use a telephone and write by hand, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.
  • Occasionally stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat and use fine light/fine grasping.
  • Rarely kneel, crawl, climb ladders, grasp forcefully, sort and file paperwork or parts, rarely lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh 40 pounds or more.
