Mineral-X is offering a postdoctoral fellow position in computational geoscience within the Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences at Stanford University. The project will develop data-driven approaches for 3D geological structure modeling using comprehensive geological, geophysical, and geochemical data for country-scale smart mapping. One goal is to transform traditional 2D geological maps into complex 3D structures by harnessing state-of-the-art data science and machine learning techniques at large scales. The research will use geophysical, geochemical, and geological data acquired by national geological surveys and industry. The postdoc will collaborate closely with both academic and industrial research partners.

We offer competitive postdoctoral salaries, plus sponsored travels to international conferences and meetings. In addition, the fellowship provides certain medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage through Stanford's benefits provisions for postdoctoral scholars.

Required Qualifications:

We are seeking qualified candidates motivated to promote mineral exploration for the global energy transition. A successful candidate should have the following:

  • Computational geoscientific skills in using geophysical and geological data for complex geological structure modeling.  The research also requires skills in solving geophysical inverse problems.
  • Demonstrated programming skills in Python or similar languages (e.g. Julia), and familiar with 1-2 industrial geospatial tools (e.g. SKUA-GOCAD, LeapFrog, ArcGIS, QGIS, or others).
  • Being a quick learner with demonstrated collaborative skills to work in interdisciplinary teams, and having proven presentation and writing skills are essential.
  • Excellent communication skills and industrial collaboration experiences are desired.
  • Completion of Ph.D. degree within the last three years and no later than June 1st, 2024.
