Applicant Announcements:

Applications are now being solicited for support from the Katherine McCormick Fund to support women in medical careers for the academic year 2007-2008. Eligible applicants must be men or women pursuing careers in academic medicine at Stanford University, School of Medicine (SOM).

Ms. McCormick was a lifelong advocate and supporter of medical research.
In 1969, she made a bequest to the School of Medicine of $5,000,000 to assist and encourage women in academic medicine at Stanford University.

Travel awards to attend scientific, educational or professional meetings will be awarded to male or female junior faculty (Instructors and Assistant Professors), postdoctoral scholars and MD, PhD, or MD/PhD graduate students. These students must be registered as School of Medicine (SOM) graduate students with a faculty mentor whose primary appointment is also in the SoM. Former awardees may apply.

The 2007 Application for Travel Grants is available. Please read all application guidelines carefully before starting the application process.

Eligibility:

Junior faculty (Instructors or Assistant Professors) must have a primary appointment in the School of Medicine

Only individuals who are currently appointed as Postdoctoral Scholars are eligible to apply

Students must be already registered in a School of Medicine graduate program

The candidate may be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or foreign national

 Please note that only one postdoc/graduate student application per faculty member will be accepted

Faculty sponsor must be appointed in the School of Medicine and not be an acting or consulting professor

Postdoctoral appointment must be in the School of Medicine

Only individuals who are currently appointed as a Postdoctoral Scholar

Support is restricted to scientific, research or professional development related travel activities only

Candidates must also possess a MD, PhD, or MD/PhD or be a graduate student

Candidates should submit ONE original application plus SEVEN collated stapled sets of all application materials in the order below to the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, 1215 Wlech Road, Modular A, Room 90 by the Application Deadline:

A Biographical Statement (maximum one page) including the following:

  • Describing your background and career goals and your current need for support.
  • Support must be evident or apparent in some way (e.g. by being a woman pursuing advancement, by mentoring women, or by supporting or encouraging the advancement of women in medicine and/or medical research.
  • Explain your need for the travel award. Travel for the purpose of training visits is also supported.
  • If traveling to a meeting, please state whether you will present a paper.

Provide meeting information about the meeting that you plane to attend including title, date(s) and location, and an estimated budget for your travel request (maximum one page).

*A Letter of Recommendation from your faculty supervisor. The letter should address the value of the conference to your training and/or career development.
