Important Info
Please send the required application materials to Paul Segall and Adrian Lew, (dike_propagation@lists.stanford.edu). The review of applications will begin immediately and will continue till the position is filled.
Applications are sought for the position of Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Geophysics or the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D with experience in Computational Fracture Mechanics or Computational Mechanics/Mathematics, and a strong interest in the mechanics of volcanic processes. A proven tracked record of code development for scientific computing is highly desirable, but not required. The candidate will work with Professors Paul Segall and Adrian Lew to develop numerical methods for dike propagation based on an in-house code, that analyzes cracks in an elastic continuum with internal viscous fluid. The candidate will use these methods to analyze the behavior of volcanic dikes and compare with geophysical observations.
