Registration HoldsRegistration holds must be cleared before a scholar's registration is considered valid. The University reserves the right to cancel the registration of a scholar with an unmet obligation. Unregistered scholars are not entitled to receive financial support through the University - it does not preclude support paid directly to the scholar from outside sources. The Bursar bills are mailed at least once quarterly. The registration fee (“tuition”) may be paid even though the bill shows payment is owed; the Bursar bill does not always apply the credits in advance of the quarter start. Feel free to give the bill to your department administrator to check the fee payment. Most holds are due to a missing registration fee or an error in the activation of registration (e.g. PeopleSoft does not automatically register you for the next quarter). Your department administrator will check the student file to see if the registration fee is in place and routed for payment. The administrator can enter missing tuition or request that it be added and then request that the hold be released. If the registration fee is not identified as the problem, then the administrator will contact the Postdoctoral Services Office (498-7618 or postdoc.services@stanford) to check on registration. Holds can usually be released within two days. You should be allowed into the library system even if there is a hold, but will not be able to check out materials. Your email will continue for up to 120 days despite messages that it is ending. The hold release will re-activate your card and email privileges.
