Goals and Objectives
To
explore effective strategies for searching the scientific literature.
To
identify the tools that facilitate a thoughtful and critical review
of scientific manuscripts.
To
develop a strategy for assessing the scientific merits and credibility
of individual publications.
To
develop skills that make the task of medical reading easier.
To
acquire an understanding of the publishing process.
To
develop a framework for serving as a peer reviewer of scientific
articles for biomedical journals.
To
understand the critical components of research grants and to develop
an effective strategy for grant writing.
To
convey an understanding of common problems in medical writing and
develop effective strategies for overcoming them.
To
identify the key components of a scientific manuscript and to develop
a strategy for writing manuscripts.
To
understand principles of data analysis and to explore the effective
use of tables and figures in the preparation of manuscripts and lectures..
To
understand the critical elements of effective scientific communication.
To
develop a method for packaging your accomplishments and identifying
potential jobs.
It is expected that each participant will attend all lectures and
small group discussion sessions. Please defer enrollment if you will
be unable to attend at least 80% of all sessions.
