Upcoming Workshops for Postdocs:

"Writing Tricks of the Trade"
9/9, 10-noon; Prerequisite for "Editing in Motion"
This workshop covers six pragmatic writing techniques that improve the clarity and conciseness of journal manuscripts and grants.  During the interactive workshop, attendees have the opportunity to practice the techniques with in-class examples.  Concise writing skills are critical given the shorter page limits for NIH grants. This workshop is followed by "Editing in Motion" on 9/23. (More information below.)

"Editing in Motion"
9/23, 10-noon; Note: "Writing Tricks of the Trade" is a prerequisite.
In this workshop, the instructor and attendees critique attendees’ abstracts by applying the six techniques learned in the "Writing Tricks of the Trade"  workshop held two weeks prior.  During the workshop, attendees practice their editing skills using the six techniques on other attendees’ abstracts—and on what can be more challenging—their own abstracts.  The instructor then provides additional detailed comments and new techniques.  The atmosphere is constructive, safe, and fun.  Attendees send in their abstracts by Sept. 15th at 5 PM.  Abstracts should not include author information, and can consist of previously published abstracts (i.e., don’t let the stress of writing a new abstract get in the way of submitting an abstract at all, it’s more important to submit one and get the practice using the editing skills).   Attendees do not have to submit an abstract to attend the "Editing in Motion" workshop.
