Benefits Information
As a Stanford postdoc, you are required to have medical insurance coverage. The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs offers a medical plan through Anthem Blue Cross. Dental and vision coverage is also offered through the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs. Enrollment for the Anthem Blue Cross Medical, Dental and VSP (vision) plans is done through an online system called BISNet (no paper enrollment forms). Enrollment is not automatic; postdoctoral scholars have to initiate their own enrollment online.

COSTS:
Postdoctoral Scholar benefits are funded either by the application
of an approved fringe benefit rate to the salaries of qualifying
(50% salary or more) Postdoctoral Scholars, or by fellowship awards,
or in the absence of one of these two sources, by the Scholar's
faculty sponsor/department. For more details, please see the 2009 Insurance Rates
for medical, dental and disability/life insurance
costs, and the benefits memo from the Office of Research and Graduate Policy.
Some postdoctoral scholars choose to waive the benefits offered by Stanford and
obtain coverage from a different source. In this case, a waiver
of insurance
must be filed with the Office of
Postdoctoral Affairs along with proof of other coverage
(e.g., insurance card, statement of coverage, etc.). You must sign the waiver form within 31 days of your appointment start date;
otherwise, your department will be charged for your medical coverage.
