Requesting an Exception to 100% FTE Policy
It is Stanford University Medical School policy to appoint postdoctoral scholars full-time (100% FTE). In the event, less than a 100% appointment is being requested, the faculty sponsor should send a memo to the Office of Postdoctoral Services before the scholar is offered the position by the faculty sponsor. This memo should include:
Request
for waiver of 100% FTE appointment and explain the circumstances
that require this appointment to be less than 100%
Confirm
that the postdoc will not be expected to put forth effort beyond
his/her FTE.
It must be
stated that the faculty sponsor will pay the health insurance premiums
for the postdoctoral scholar during their fellowship. This is a Stanford
Medical School policy that requires their health insurance premiums
be paid by the sponsoring department at the 100% FTE level.
Each request will be reviewed and notification of approval or "more
information needed" will generally occur within one week of receipt
of the request. When approved, please be aware that they are generally
approved for only 12-month appointments. In the event the faculty
sponsor wishes to extend a "part-time" postdoctoral appointment
they will need to request in writing again, addressing the above
issues.
