ClearBenefits System (for Administrators)
Overview
ClearBenefits is a stand-alone module that allows:
- Postdocs to sign up for their insurance benefits, enter dependents, add family coverage, or make changes to their elections. (To learn more about postdoc insurance, please visit the Postdoc Benefits website.)
- Administrators to enter and track the PTAs that are used to pay for each of their postdoc’s insurance premiums on a monthly basis.
Gaining Access
In general, one user and one back-up can be given access to the ClearBenefits system per department or division. Training is required to receive a login. A login will provide you full access to PTA Management screens; read-only access is not available at this time. Classes are offered on a quarterly basis or more frequently, if needed. You can sign up though STARS.
If you would like to receive announcements on upcoming ClearBenefits training classes and monthly reminders, please email Shannon Monahan (smonahan at stanford dot edu) to be added to the ClearBenefits Administrators Mailman List.
While not directly handled through OPA, managing postdoc insurance also requires knowledge of how postdocs are paid. It is strongly suggested that administrators be familiar with Stanford GFS entry and practices. Training for GFS is also provided, and administrators can sign up through STARS.

NOTE: The ClearBenefits system uses pop-ups in order to provide a larger display to manage PTAs for your postdocs, so make sure you turn off your pop-up blocker for that specific website.
